We are thrilled to announce that Lavita, in collaboration with Theta Network, is set to revolutionize medical AI with the launch of new AI training jobs for the Theta edge network. Community powered AI for “medical Q&A shared tasks”

Question and answering (Q&A) is one of the most important tasks in natural language processing (NLP), and it can be utilized for developing a variety of downstream applications.

In this new launch, Lavita enables Theta edge nodes and the community to engage by sharing their computation resources to build medical question-answering assistants. As a first step, edge nodes will be mainly contributing their AI computation power to complete shared AI tasks. Later, we will incorporate tasks such as summarizing medical notes, and other medical applications in NLP.

Leveraging the Theta Edge Network

Theta edge network is the leading blockchain-powered network for decentralized video delivery, with more than 100k Edge Nodes across the world. Edge Nodes currently relay video content over the fully decentralized Theta Edge Network, with no centralized servers involved of any kind.

Recently, Theta edge nodes added the capability for users to contribute excess CPU/GPU computing power to process jobs for Generative AI and Content Recommendation with @FedML_AI, for example. Embracing the Shared AI Task for LAVITA

How does it work? A step-by-step walk through.

In this new approach, Lavita and Theta edge network foster a community-powered AI ecosystem specifically for the medical AI field.

Following are the steps for rewarding Theta edge nodes. In particular, the Lavita edge job validation process ensures the authenticity of the models, and participants are rewarded with LAVITA tokens for their contributions on a monthly basis.

  • Initially, two datasets will be offered to edge nodes, including training and validation — these are publicly available data sets and contain multiple-choice medical questions and answers.
  • Lavita will later evaluate the performance of fine-tuned models with its own test dataset.
  • In addition to the dataset, fine-tuning code will be provided to each edge node client.
  • The process of fine-tuning is to further train a pre-trained large language model (LLM) on usually a small dataset for a specific task to make the LLM better suited for that task.
  • Once the training and fine-tuning processes are completed, it will automatically upload the trained model files to the cloud. Lavita’s AI platform will download the model files based on the Edge Node ID and compute its own hash to verify that the uploaded files are authentic and have not been modified.
  • Once “Lavita Edge Job Validation” is completed, a model performance is evaluated on various parameters, for example, whether it meets specific criteria, achieves better performance than the baseline, and more.
  • If a model does meet the criteria, then edge nodes will be rewarded with LAVITA tokens, paid out on a monthly basis.
