Today, there is a clear gap between how medical AI is benchmarked in labs and how it is expected to perform in real-world clinical environments. Medical Sphere aims to close that gap — by building a global platform and community for evaluating AI models across medical, clinical, and broader healthcare use cases, one that earns trust through transparency, participation, and real-world relevance.
What’s New in the Medical Sphere
We launched Medical Sphere with a bold vision: to build the world’s most trusted community and platform for high-quality evaluation of AI models in healthcare. Since our initial release in 2024, we’ve received invaluable feedback from users around the world. Today, we’re excited to roll out a major upgrade — bringing powerful new features, a smoother user experience, and expanded support for more use cases. Below, we highlight what’s new in the latest version of Medical Sphere:
🧑💻 User Management System
This release introduces a new user management system. Users can now create an account on Medical Sphere with just an email address — no friction, no hassle.
Why register? Creating an account unlocks a richer experience: registered users can save and track their votes, view their full voting history, and gain access to new features as they’re rolled out. Most excitingly, registered contributors will soon start earning badges and rewards based on the quality and consistency of their evaluations — helping us recognize those who are shaping the future of medical AI.
📊 Live Leaderboard
Medical Sphere now features a live leaderboard where users can track the real-time performance of AI models. To ensure fairness, rankings are based only on anonymous votes — cases where the model’s identity is hidden from the evaluator — helping eliminate bias in the evaluation process.
We also actively monitor and review voting logs to filter out non-medical queries and instances where model identities are revealed in the responses. The leaderboard is periodically refreshed based on this cleaned, high-quality data — so what you see reflects meaningful, trustworthy feedback from the community.
🩺 Badges for Medical Professionals
If you’re a medical professional anywhere in the world, you can now receive a verified badge on Medical Sphere. After creating an account, simply navigate to your user settings and open the Medical Verification tab. From there, you can submit a verification request using your institutional email.
Additional verification options, including automated license verification, are coming soon.
Verified medical professionals will gain access to exclusive opportunities, including participation in research and industry collaborations. We strongly encourage and welcome clinicians across all regions and languages to join us. Medical professionals have a critical role to play in shaping an AI-augmented healthcare future — and their insights are essential to making AI safer, more effective, and more clinically relevant.
🖼 More Models + Image Input Support
Medical Sphere now supports multi-modal models, enabling users to attach medical images to their conversations for richer, more realistic evaluations. We’ve also expanded the list of available models, including several flagship AI systems — all accessible for free.

🖥 UI Enhancements
We’ve made several user interface improvements to enhance the overall experience. Medical Sphere now supports dark mode for improved visual comfort, along with a mobile- and tablet-friendly layout. We’ve also implemented general design and performance updates to ensure a smoother, more responsive experience across devices.

🔄 Update on Medical AI Assist
We’d like to share an important update: Medical AI Assist, in its current form as a standalone website, will be retired and transitioned to our upcoming mobile app.
Since its launch, Medical AI Assist has received incredible feedback, and the data it generated helped us build a novel benchmark for long-form medical question answering. Moving forward, our focus is shifting. Rather than continuing as a general-purpose platform for answering medical questions — a task that flagship models, even with no medical training, are increasingly capable of — we aim to evolve Medical AI Assist into a personalized assistant that understands each user and integrates with their health records. This is a challenge even for the most advanced AI models, due to the lack of access to individual health data — but it’s a frontier we’re committed to exploring.
As part of this transition, we’ll be integrating the chat feature of Medical AI Assist into Medical Sphere, with a renewed focus on testing and evaluating medical conversations in a controlled, community-driven environment.
